I’ll tell you what, cars have changed so much since the days of Henry Ford and Co. (Then again, what hasn’t changed over the last 100 years, including gas prices?) Good ol’ Henry Ford would probably be so shocked and surprised at how far the world has come when it comes to our vehicles, and the good news is that the world doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of slowing down any time soon. If anything, we’re pushing the envelope just to see how far it can go.
Toyota is well known around the world for creating fuel-efficeient and even hybrid vehicles, and they’re getting ready to release possibly their most ambitious car yet. Sadly, they haven’t released the name of the car, but they have released some of its technical specifications. Here’s the big one: it’ll run off of hydrogen fuel cells instead of gasoline.
Toyota’s as-yet-unnamed car will supposedly be able to get up to 435 miles before it would need to be refueled. While that’s impressive, the refueling may prove to be Toyota’s biggest problem with their hydrogen fuel cell vehicle – just where do you stop to fill it up?
This new offering from Toyota will be available in Japan sometime in April of 2015, after which it will head to the United States and Europe. And even though it’ll be available, it won’t be available cheap – it’ll cost around $70,000. Ouch.
Many car-makers are sold on the fact that using hydrogen fuel cells to power vehicles is a lot better on the environment than using the fossil fuels of the past.
What do you think? If you could afford this vehicle would you purchase one? Do you think using hydrogen fuel cells is a better alternative than gasoline?
